Professional Hygiene
Not just cleaning teeth — understanding where and why plaque builds up
Professional hygiene at Microclinic is a complete visit lasting about 60 minutes. The doctor first examines the condition of your teeth and gums and takes photos to record the starting situation.
If there's hard buildup (tartar) on the teeth, it's carefully removed with an ultrasonic scaler. Next comes air-polishing, better known to patients as AirFlow. The doctor selects the polishing powder based on the condition and sensitivity of your teeth, and cleans between the teeth with floss.
We don't add steps just because they're considered standard. After cleaning, we don't use abrasive pastes, brushes, or polishing cups unless there's an actual need for them. Our goal is to thoroughly remove plaque and buildup without unnecessary wear on the tooth surface.
The same procedure is also done for teens — following the same protocol, with extra attention to the specifics of teen hygiene and newly erupted teeth.
At the end of the visit, the doctor takes follow-up photos, recommends home-care products, and helps correct your brushing technique. Professional hygiene is generally recommended about every six months, but the exact interval is determined individually — based on gum condition, how quickly plaque forms, and whether you have restorations, crowns, or implants.

Case study
A patient brushed regularly at home but kept noticing bleeding gums and a dark buildup that came back quickly.
During the exam, we found hard deposits near the gumline and areas between the teeth that were hard to clean thoroughly with a regular brush. We took photos before the procedure, removed the hard deposits with an ultrasonic scaler, then performed air-polishing and worked through the interdental spaces with floss.
The follow-up photos after the procedure clearly showed the result. We also pointed out to the patient the areas that needed more attention, corrected their brushing technique, and recommended products for daily care.
As a result, the patient left with clean teeth after a single visit — and a clear home-care routine that helps the result last longer.

Comprehensive Check-up
See the full picture before pain appears
A comprehensive check-up is a detailed examination of the teeth and gums under a microscope. It takes roughly an hour and a half to two hours and lets us assess not only what's bothering the patient right now, but also areas where a problem hasn't caused pain or discomfort yet.
During the visit, the doctor examines every tooth, the condition of the gums and mucosa, and checks old fillings, restorations, veneers, and crowns. Tooth wear and the quality of home hygiene are also assessed. If a patient is concerned about their bite or discomfort while chewing, the doctor pays extra attention to those areas.
The entire exam is done under a microscope. A built-in camera displays the image on a screen, so the patient can immediately see any defects found and understand what the doctor is talking about. The check-up also includes photo and video documentation.
A teen check-up follows the same approach — under a microscope, with photo and video documentation, with attention to tooth eruption, hygiene, and early signs of decay.
Additional checks are done only when needed. If a particular tooth looks suspicious, the doctor may test its response to cold or take a targeted X-ray in the clinic. Such an X-ray is included in the check-up. If a CT scan or other imaging is needed for a complete diagnosis, the patient receives a referral, and the results are reviewed at a separate consultation.
After the check-up, the patient receives a list of the problems found, photos and video, a recommended treatment sequence, and a plan of next steps. If needed, the doctor also corrects home hygiene and explains which areas deserve more attention.
A comprehensive check-up is recommended once a year. Professional hygiene is usually done every six months, so one of the preventive visits during the year can be combined with a full check-up.

Case study
A patient came in for a routine exam. There was no pain or other notable complaints, but they wanted to make sure their old fillings were still in good shape.
During the microscope exam, we found that one of the old fillings no longer fit tightly against the tooth. We also found an area between two teeth that couldn't be fully assessed visually alone.
We took a targeted X-ray and confirmed that changes requiring treatment were starting under the filling. Meanwhile, the other restorations remained stable and didn't need replacing.
We showed the patient every area we'd found on screen, explained which tooth should be treated first and which could simply be monitored. We also corrected their interdental hygiene technique and put together a clear plan for follow-up visits.
As a result, we caught the problem before it caused any pain and avoided replacing fillings that were still functional.

Cavity Treatment Without Drilling
For certain early changes in the tooth, treatment can be done without traditional drilling
We use ICON in cases where the changes are still early enough to allow minimally invasive treatment without classic tooth preparation.
The method can be used for early-stage decay, white spots after orthodontic treatment, and other demineralized areas — after the doctor evaluates the specific situation.
Before the procedure, the doctor examines the tooth and determines whether this method suits the change found. The working area is always isolated with a rubber dam.
The main advantage of this procedure is the ability to treat certain early-stage lesions without drilling the tooth.
The procedure is usually done in a single visit and takes up to an hour.
